Staff ML Engineer designs, trains, and ships ML systems for governance and security capabilities while building infrastructure, data pipelines, and evaluation frameworks for Docker's Intelligence team.
Docker has been one of the most loved brands in developer tooling, trusted by more than 20 million monthly users and over 20 billion container image pulls. From solo founders to the worldâs largest companies, developers rely on Docker to build, share, and run their applications across our suite of products including Docker Desktop, Docker Hub, and Docker Scout.
We are a globally distributed, remote-first team building the tools that define how software gets built and delivered. As AI agents redefine software development, Docker is at the center of that shift, providing the sandboxed environments, verified images, and secure infrastructure that make autonomous workflows trustworthy by default.
Dockerâs long-term vision is to become the runtime for trusted autonomy. As agents become more capable and autonomous, governance, policy, identity, and audit become foundational.
The Intelligence team builds intelligence-driven product capabilities that make software and agent execution on Docker safer, more effective, more trustworthy, and more efficient. Because Docker sits at the intersection of models, tools, software, identities, credentials, networks, and execution, we have visibility into behavior and context few other platforms can see, and we think that visibility is the foundation for a new layer of value across the platform.
Weâre hiring a Staff ML Engineer as one of the founding engineers on Intelligence Org. Youâll work directly with the teamâs first engineers and manager to figure out what to build, how to build it, and how it fits into the broader Docker platform. This is a hands-on builder role with staff-level scope: youâll shape technical direction, ship the first versions of intelligence capabilities into customer hands, and grow the foundations (data, evaluation, infrastructure) the team will rely on as it scales.
Design, train, evaluate, and ship ML systems that power governance and security capabilities, starting with problems like prompt injection detection, behavioral anomaly detection, trust scoring, and policy recommendations.
Build the supporting infrastructure: data pipelines, feature stores, model serving, evaluation harnesses, and the feedback loops that make iteration fast.
Make pragmatic build-vs-buy calls. Use frontier models, off-the-shelf tooling, and managed services to move quickly; invest in custom systems where they create durable advantage.
Set technical direction for the teamâs ML work. Own the architecture, evaluation methodology, model lifecycle, and the bar for shipping.
Help recruit, mentor, and shape the team as it grows.
This role may require participation in a 24â7 on-call rotation for the Agentic Platform; carry genuine pager responsibility for the services you build and operate
5+ years of deep applied ML/AI expertise with a track record of shipping production systems. Experience in fraud, abuse, safety, security, or trust domains, where adversarial dynamics, imbalanced data, and high-stakes decisions is valuable.
8+ yearsof professional, hands-on, full-time software engineering experience in backend, infrastructure, or platform engineering.
Bachelorâs degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
Youâve built and owned the systems around ML models, i.e. data pipelines, serving, evaluation, monitoring etc. and have shipped customer-facing products end to end.
You use modern AI tools fluently in your day-to-day work and have a sharp instinct for when frontier models can replace traditional ML, when they canât, and when to combine the two.
Experience with LLM-based systems in production - evaluation, prompt engineering, fine-tuning, retrieval, guardrails, agent frameworks.
Familiarity with the agent / MCP ecosystem.
Youâre energized by an early-stage effort where the roadmap is being written as the work happens, and you make crisp decisions with incomplete information.
Collaborative and low-ego. You work well across teams, write clearly, and bring others along.
Docker considers visa sponsorship on a case-by-case basis based on business needs.
Perks
Freedom & flexibility; fit your work around your life
Designated quarterly Whaleness Days plus end of year Whaleness break
Home office setup; we want you comfortable while you work
16 weeks of paid Parental leave (after 6 months of employment)
Technology stipend equivalent to $100 USD net/month
PTO plan that encourages you to take time to do the things you enjoy
Training stipend for conferences, courses and classes
Equity; we are a growing start-up and want all employees to have a share in the success of the company

Engineering manager leads a senior infrastructure team building Docker's secure container build systems and CI/CD platforms while staying hands-on with technical design and code.
The Secure Build team builds and operates the infrastructure behind Dockerâs container builds. The team owns and runs Docker Build Cloud and Dockerâs Hub build systems, which run millions of builds a year for hundreds of organisations, and is building the next generation of that: secure, sandboxed CI that isolates each build step and produces hardened images with strong, verifiable provenance, including for customers in regulated and air-gapped environments. A current focus is a hardened build runner that executes each workflow step inside its own micro-VM sandbox.
Weâre looking for an Engineering Manager to lead this team. Itâs a small, very senior group that recently came together, with strong technical leadership spread across it. Youâll own the teamâs delivery, growth, and operational excellence, keep its high-scale production systems healthy, and be a real part of setting the teamâs technical direction alongside the engineers who lead on different parts of the system.
The successful candidate leads first. Theyâre an experienced engineering manager at their best turning a senior team into a high-performing, value-delivering part of the wider Docker org: getting the process and team mechanics right, partnering well with Product, and navigating the personalities on and around the team. What sets them apart is that they stay deep in the technical work rather than steering from a distance. Theyâre active in technical design and in the PRs, they help shape the technical direction, and theyâre happy to pick up code where it moves things forward. Weâre not after a 50-50 player-coach, and weâre not after someone whoâs left the engineering behind either; the balance tilts to leading, but theyâre hands-on enough to be properly in the detail with the team. The team has strong technical leadership across it, and direction is set together rather than by any one person, so this isnât about being the best engineer in the room or the deepest supply-chain-security expert. Itâs about being engaged and credible enough to be a real part of how the team sets its direction, not standing apart from it. They care about security broadly: how modern attacks actually work, the OWASP Top 10, and where a build pipeline is exposed. They lead through judgement, unblocking, and direction-setting rather than process for its own sake, because thatâs what a senior, autonomy-heavy team responds to. Theyâre comfortable owning the operational reality of production systems and on-call, and theyâre energised rather than thrown by ambiguity. Above all they care about growing the engineers around them and shipping something customers actually trust.
Lead a team of senior engineers operating Docker Build Cloud and Hubâs build systems and building Dockerâs next generation of secure build infrastructure.
Own delivery: turn an ambiguous, high-stakes roadmap, including time-bound commitments to regulated and federal customers, into a concrete plan the team can execute predictably.
Get the teamâs process and mechanics right, and partner closely with Product to turn strategy into a roadmap the team believes in.
Stay deep in the technical work: active in design discussions and code review, hands-on in the code where it helps, rather than steering from a distance.
Be a real part of setting the teamâs technical direction, working with the engineers who lead on different parts of the system, while giving the whole team room to own technical decisions.
This role may require participation in an on-call rotation to provide support outside of standard business hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as needed.
Be accountable for the reliability and operational excellence of the teamâs production services, including a healthy, humane on-call rotation.
Own the growth, development, and performance of each engineer on the team, and hire to strengthen it.
Work across the wider org - Product, sales, commercial and legal, the Hub/registry team, and security - to align the team and shield it from churn.
Hold a high bar for engineering excellence and raise the teamâs security hygiene.
5+ years managing high-performing engineering teams, including engineers at or above their own level of technical seniority, with a track record of growing and retaining senior individual contributors.
8+ years of professional, hands-on, full-time software engineering experience in backend, infrastructure, or platform engineering.
Bachelorâs degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
A leader first: strong on team process and mechanics, on partnering with Product, and on reading and navigating the personalities on and around a team to make it more than the sum of its parts.
Comfortable inheriting a team they didnât build: earning the trust of experienced engineers, and owning the full range of performance conversations, including the difficult ones, fairly and directly.
Technically deep and still hands-on: recent enough engineering chops to be active in design and code review, be a real part of setting technical direction with the team, and write code where it helps. Not the best engineer in the room or the deepest domain expert, but not a manager whoâs left the technical detail behind either.
A strong interest in security: how recent attacks have actually worked, the OWASP Top 10, and the build threat model. Familiarity with software supply chain security (SLSA, in-toto, provenance, signing such as cosign, SBOMs, vulnerability scanning) is valued, but we care more about security instinct and appetite than a checklist of tools.
Understanding of CI/CD and build-system internals, container images and image hardening, and OCI registry mechanics.
Experience operating production infrastructure: on-call, incident response, SLOs, and the realities of keeping high-traffic services healthy.
Comfortable leading a distributed, remote-first team across European and US time zones, with a high degree of autonomy.
Strong written and verbal communication, and a habit of staying close to customers.
Hands-on familiarity with Go is a plus; itâs the teamâs primary language.
Get to know the team, the systems, and the commitments before changing anything. Build relationships with each engineer, understand the roadmap and what the team is building, and get hands-on enough with Build Cloud and the inherited systems to understand the on-call load youâre taking on.
Own the delivery plan with the team and Product. Get the on-call rotation to a healthy, sustainable place. Be the teamâs point of contact across the wider org.
The team is delivering against its roadmap and operating its production systems reliably, the on-call and delivery cadence are sustainable, and the team is growing both in capability and in number.

Founding Product Manager leads product strategy, customer validation, and design for AI Corps, a fellowship program training and deploying AI specialists into enterprise organizations.
CodePath is the largest educator of college computer science students in the country. We have trained over 50,000 students from 1,000+ universities. Our partners include Amazon, Google, Meta, and 4,000+ companies across the industry. Weâve been training the next generation of technical talent for nearly a decade, and we just launched a $150M initiative with Anthropic, building one of the most ambitious AI workforce programs in the world.
Weâre now expanding into new markets and scaling our team so we can move at the speed AI is transforming the workforce. People joining CodePath now will have the opportunity to help architect the next frontier of our work.
We are building toward millions of learners, hundreds of millions in revenue, and billions in economic impact for a generation of technical talent who have historically been locked out of tech. If you want to own something and be part of a 0-to-1 journey at an organization moving at the speed of AI, we think youâd love it here.
About the Role
Location: Remote
Role Type: Full-Time
Reporting to: Chief Product Officer
Compensation: $200,000 to $232,000 per year
AI Corps is a fellowship program that sources, trains, and deploys applied AI specialists into organizations. Fellows complete an intensive program, build skills across modern AI stacks, and embed directly with partner teams to ship real work. The first cohort, Claude Corps, is now launching in partnership with Anthropic with 1,000 fellows committed to deploy into nonprofits. The next chapter is enterprise, where the demand is larger, the budgets are real, and the urgency to build with AI is highest.
CodePath spent the past decade building this kind of infrastructure for education: training that produces engineers who perform at top companies, and ten years of outcomes data to prove it works. AI Corps takes the model to enterprise. The first cohort will prove the model inside mission-driven organizations, and enterprise is the next chapter and what our Founding Product Manager, AI Corps will own.
The platform is already in active build, on track for a September launch, and it has been engineering-led from day one: no product leadership, no customer validation, no feedback loops. Bringing those is this job, and getting design ahead of engineering is the first order of business.
Your ownership of the platform will power the full lifecycle: how organizations identify the AI capabilities they need, how fellows are trained to those specs and matched to partners, how they embed alongside existing teams, how incumbent employees build the skills to work with them, and how outcomes get measured in ways enterprise buyers act on.
The enterprise market is our clearest near-term path to making CodePath financially self-sustaining. Companies are racing to retrain entire departments for AI-native work, corporate L&D budgets are expanding, and almost no provider can prove the depth, rigor, or ROI that CodePath has spent a decade building. The path from tens of thousands today to millions of learners runs directly through this product, and the revenue opportunity is the largest in CodePathâs history.
You will partner directly with Earned Revenue, Curriculum, and Engineering, and you will have unusual freedom to do it: a green-lit, funded initiative already in motion, frontier AI tools with effectively unlimited Claude credits, and a small engineering team that ships faster than groups ten times its size.
Quality is your scoreboard. Revenue here flows through partnerships, so you will not own a number. What you own is whether the platform earns that revenue: fellow engagement, student satisfaction, the quality of every partner and host organization touchpoint. If the experience is excellent, the business follows. If it is not, nothing else matters.
The ceiling is enormous. Through our partnership with Anthropic and our standing with universities, states, and employers, this product launches with distribution most startups spend a decade building. We need someone who thinks at that scale from day one.
What youâll do
The Senior Director of AI Programs owns the design and delivery of AI Corps programs. You own the platform that powers them: a new build, separate from CodePathâs core learning platform, which has its own PM. In practice, that means:
Define and own the AI Corps platform roadmap, turning fellow, partner, and program needs into clear priorities, holding a high bar for design quality across every fellow and partner touchpoint
Define and own the metrics that prove the platform works: fellow engagement, student NPS, host organization satisfaction, and experience quality. Revenue is the outcome; these are the inputs you control
Work directly with Anthropic teams and other enterprise partners on deployment, tooling, and joint enterprise opportunities
Build the platform that makes AI Corps repeatable at enterprise scale, covering partner onboarding, fellow matching and deployment, performance tracking, and the full partner lifecycle
Design the incumbent employee training product, working with AI Programs and Curriculum to build an AI enablement path for existing enterprise employees that runs alongside the fellow deployment model
Run sharp discovery with enterprise partners and internal teams, then translate it into success metrics, prototypes, and shipped features
Work closely with Earned Revenue to translate commercial needs into platform direction and ensure the product supports what the sales team needs to close and retain partners
Design experiments to test your biggest bets, and use both qualitative signal and hard data to change course fast
Be the connective tissue between Earned Revenue, AI Programs, Curriculum, and Engineering: align priorities, surface tradeoffs, and unblock the build
Use AI across your entire workflow to compress weeks into days, raising the quality and the speed of what you ship
Who you are
You are a founding-caliber PM who has built from nothing and stayed to scale it. AI is woven into how you work, and the size of this opportunity energizes you.
Required
You have built 0 to 1 and stayed past it. You have taken a product from a blank page to real commercial scale, and you stayed through the hypergrowth that followed, so you know what comes after launch. Bonus if that was at a company that went from a handful of people to a billion-dollar-plus business
AI is how you work every day. You can show, not just claim, how your workflow has changed: prototypes, requirements, and analyses you generate and pressure-test in hours, not months
You hold strong opinions and you can defend them live. You bring clear, well-reasoned bets and stand behind them under pressure
You thrive in ambiguity. You can structure messy problems, build alignment across commercial and technical teams, and drive execution with no playbook
You have worked shoulder to shoulder with Sales or Customer Success, and you know what a deal-blocking product gap looks like
You have strong analytical instincts. You define the metrics that matter and read the data to make the call
You write requirements engineers trust, and you can sell a product strategy to technical and non-technical audiences alike
Preferred
Background building for or selling to corporate L&D, HR, or workforce and benefits buyers
Fluency across the modern PM toolkit: product analytics (Mixpanel, Amplitude, Hex), prototyping and design (Figma, Framer), data querying (SQL), and AI-assisted development tools (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, or similar)
Experience with talent marketplace, staffing, workforce deployment, or HR technology products
Experience with enterprise SaaS platforms, integrations, or admin tooling
Founder experience or equivalent time building in a zero-to-one environment
We encourage you to apply even if you do not meet every qualification listed. Strong candidates often look different from what a job description imagines, and we would rather talk to someone exceptional who checks seven of nine boxes than miss them entirely.
Compensation
CodePath has standardized salaries based on the positionâs level, no matter where you live. For this role, weâre hiring for an Individual Contributor level position at an annual base salary of $135,000 to $175,000. Total compensation is $200,000 to $232,000, which includes base salary plus a guaranteed monthly supplement. Salary is determined based on your relevant experience and skills as evaluated through our interview process.
Full-Time Employee Benefits
This is a 100% remote positionâwork from anywhere in the U.S.! CodePath prioritizes employee well-being with a competitive benefits package to support your health, financial security, and work-life balance.
Health & Wellness: Medical, dental, and vision insurance (90% employer-covered for employees and dependents), employer-funded healthcare reimbursement, FSAs, and Employee Assistance Program
Financial Security: 401(k), employer-paid life & disability insurance, and identity theft protection
Work-Life Balance: Generous PTO, paid holidays, 10 weeks of fully paid parental leave, and an annual year-end company closure (Dec 24 â Jan 2)
Professional Growth: $1,000 annual professional development stipend and home office setup support
ââStudent Loan Forgiveness: CodePath is a qualifying employer for Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF), helping employees manage student loan debt

Founding Product Manager owns strategy, customer validation, and design for AI Corps, a new AI fellowship and deployment platform launching in September.
